Traveling to The Perch
Where is Twin Peaks?
Twin Peaks is in the San Bernardino National Forest, just 90 minutes from LA and 2 hours from San Diego. Once you get to San Bernardino, you take the scenic Rim of the World Highway (CA 18) up the mountain to Route 189 which brings you right to The Perch. The elevation at Twin Peaks is 5771 ft.
The views from the highway are spectacular and the local roads are hilly and curvy with lots of trees. The Perch is 10 minutes to Lake Gregory in Crestline, and in the other direction, we’re ten minutes to Lake Arrowhead. Big Bear is another 40 minutes further on the Rim of the World Highway.
Crestline, Twin Peaks, Blue Jay and Lake Arrowhead offer a variety of outdoor activities, shops and restaurants. Sky Forest and Running Springs, which are more like 15 or 20 minutes away, offer more adventures and shopping.

Traveling in the Winter
If the roads are covered with snow or ice, the county may require you to have 4WD, snow tires, or snow chains. The police may be posted where the 189 meets the 18, and you will not be allowed up the road without them. To be sure you’re prepared, check the weather for the mountain region before you arrive, and check the roads to The Perch on Cal Trans Road Info to find out about current requirements and road conditions.
If there’s a lot of snow and ice, and you don’t have 4WD, we may ask you to park on the paved road in front of Cabin 1, so there’s no chance of getting stuck in the snow. This is because there are no paved driveways by our cabins.
For more detailed info, check the CalTrans website.

It’s best to have a car to get around the mountain, but there is public transportation if needed. Mountain Transit has a trolley that comes up the mountain from San Bernardino. It goes to Crestline and then to all the nearby towns, with a stop right near The Perch.
